bumper sticker

ok, you can't really see it... Translation: YOUR GIRLFRIEND TALKS IN HER SLEEP. Now that is pretty funny but what I want to know is where did he meet Theresia?

My little Thespian

Logan is learning his lines for the first play he's ever been in. Its on Tuesday at 530 at his school. He's Jack(may have the name wrong) the American Elf. The name of the play is "Christmas around the World". They should have given him the part of Santa, darn it!!

holiday decoration for the door

i took the dripping blood from Halloween down so i wanted something else up for december. I made this with $5 of stuff from the Dollar Tree. It has two packs of incense hanging at the bottom-pine and cinnamon. Both those smells make me feel like Christmas. I'm not going to burn them, just want to get a whiff of them when I come in the apartment.

Chuck & Larry

I watched several movies this weekend. Started off Thursday after our Thanksgiving dinner with "Ratatouille"-just me and the kids. It was actually cute... Friday night watched "Live Free or Die Hard" with Theresia which was completely killer! It was catch-up-on-laundry weekend. Loads 1 and 2 was "Reeker". "Reeker" was a B horror flick. I would not waste time watching it again. Saturday night we went to see "The Mist". I commented on that earlier...'nuff said. On Sunday, loads 3 and 4 consisted of "The Condemned". It was an action movie and despite the fact that it looks to be made by the wrestling people, it was not that bad. Continuing through the sheets and towels was "I Now Pronounce You, Chuck and Larry" which was funny and I WOULD watch it again (but not multiple times).
I still have one more movie to watch but I saw it in the theater already so I'm saving it for last. That would be "28 Weeks Later".

The Mist

Theresia and I went to a movie this weekend. It was a Steven King made movie called The Mist. I really thought it was a cool movie, all the way up until the last 5 minutes. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't say what happened. I will just say that Theresia and I just sat there at the end with our mouths open staring at the screen in disbelief and disappointment. It is worth going to see.

Important Note: Lexie and Logan Sizes

After talking to the kid's mom, we both decided it would be best if we started putting the kids in the next size up. They have been the same size for a while now, so they might be due to sprout up, and if you get something that just fits, then they grow...that's a lot of useless clothing.

I'm going with Lg Husky shirts for Logan, and XXL Plus-size girls for Lexie. Lexie can wear some ladies/misses/juniors/womens clothing, notably the women's 14P jeans, but each of the categories comes in a different size, and it's hard for me to keep it straight. Likewise, in short-sleeved shirts, Logan can wear a Small, and pants--he's 33" waist I believe. The only sure way is to have them try things on. Most pants will need hemmed severly, so I have to keep that in mind. Cargo pants for Logan would end up with pockets at the ankles, and any glittery decoration at the bottom of a pair of Lexie's pants would end up in the trash. *sigh*

nerf gun fights

the kids have really been playing with the nerf guns they got for Christmas LAST year. They only have a couple bullets, but they have such a good time chasing each other around.

LEXIE AND LOGAN'S CHRISTMAS LIST

The following posts will be pictures of what Lexie and Logan want for Christmas, along with details if necessary.

Only leaving this up till after Christmas.

Japanese vs. Chinese Scooters

I joined the Honda Reflex Owner's Group on yahoo last week--just as reference material--and also because the other scooter groups I belong to have sort of slacked off. I have a theory. I have not been on there enough to draw a solid conclusion yet, but here goes:

The problems with the Chinese scooters are problems with the
engineering, parts supply, and design of the scooters. Poor assembly and sometimes cheaper materials makes the Chinese scooters experience problems much sooner than the Japanese scooters. The same problems happen to your fine Japanese machines, but at 10,000 miles instead of 1,000 or 20,000 instead of 2,000. The real difference is the mindset.

With the Japanese scoots, you pay your money up front to forestall problems with your scooter and when they do happen, you pay your money to someone else to fix them. With the Chinese, you know there will be problems, you prepare for them, they happen sooner, and you fix them
yourself.

I see these guys talking about bad stators, wiring problems, muffler gaskets, even so far I have heard "hard to get parts" and "in the shop for weeks". So I'm guessing they feel all the same pain--just a little later in life!

Thanksgiving cooking a big meal

This is my 2nd thanksgiving cooking a big meal. This time i stuffed the turkey with onion, and wedges of lemon, lime, and orange. I put a few slices on top, and sprinkled grilled chickens spice over the top. It came out pretty good. I also fixed stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams with black walnuts, green beans almondine, broccoli in cheese sauce, fresh baked bread, and cranberry sauce with lemon zest. For dessert we had pumpkin bread, and brownies baked in the replacement for the Exploding Pyrex Pan. Whipped cream to top these both.

The Exploding Pyrex Pan

You know what happens when you turn on the wrong cap, and your Pyrex 9 x 13 baking pan is on it? Well, nothing immediately, but in a short while it will literally explode with deadly force. My pretty blue pan--THE ONE I HAD A LID FOR--exploded. I was cleaning up glass for an hour!

Fifth Place

Lexie's grades were not so hot this last grading period. It is due mainly to her horrible handwriting. She avoids writing as much as possible and when she does write, its almost illegible. She has not been getting credit for some things because the teachers can not read her answers. Spelling is an issue as well. She is practising writing (its actually printing) each night by copying stuff I give her. I have been getting paragraphs off wikipedia about various animals. Now if she can just do as well in class, she should be ok. Last week, she had a science project due. She timed a trained gerbil through a maze and then an untrained gerbil. The idea was to prove her theory that the trained gerbil would be faster at finding the food than the untrained gerbil. Even though her experiment was unsuccessful she still got fifth place out of her entire grade. That was over 100 kids! Pictured is her ribbon...

The boat!

We took the kids to the boat at the Oxmoor mall. It looks boring to me, but the kids always love it. Rachael and Lex were doing some wierd advanced patty-cake game. Logan was trying to climb and before that they were all playing tag. I think every kid on the playground was in the game because it was just a lot of running and screaming! Its good to let them burn off that excess energy even when the weather is bad, and the boat is perfect for that. My kids need to remain as active as possible so they don't end up trapped in a slow, broken-down body and have to get it overhauled like I did.

Iron Man - Trailer

I am so stoked about this movie!!! I just learned of it's existence while doing my quick once-over of my Maxim (December issue). Maxim always as really cool stuff, and a lot of good humor. Anyway, I can't WAIT to see this movie! It looks like it mimics the recent animated release The Invincible Iron Man somewhat. I was at first put off by Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role, but then as Maxim explains it, he's perfect for the Tony Stark image. Especially the alcoholic part. Anyway, check out the trailer on Apple. It's the bomb!

Undead Podcast 1 - November

I'm just starting to play around with the concept of a podcast. This is my first "live" attempt at a finished project. It has some decent music selections as well as what I think is at least a small amount of humor interjected. If you are feeling brave, or bored (either in the extreme) visit the Undead Podcast November Edition

Annoy-a-tron!!!!!!

Oh my God! A cooler invention has never been conceived!!!! There is this programmer guy here at work named Grady. I have known him for two years now and he is one of the coolest guys around. He helps me out a lot with custom programming and stuff. Well anyway, this is his last year here, so I wanted to get him something as a retirement present. Not anything expensive or anything, just something that would be suitable to his personality and that he might think was neat. I found the http://www.thinkgeek.com/ web site when I googled "programmer gifts". I ended up getting him a clock. It tells time in binary! You have to look at the LED's that are lit up and then figure out what the time is based on that. Its HERE if you want to take a gander.

Anyway, I found THIS GADGET called the Annoy-a-Tron while I was looking for the gift, and I just HAD to get it. I am going to start using it ASAP to drive people completely insane! I just can not wait!!!

Tube Maze

These are pictures of the maze we made out of cardboard boxes and PVC pipe. The breeder we got Shadow and Ginger from said that it would not hurt them if they chewed on it. They liked running around and exploring more than getting the food: sunflower seeds. Stupid uncooperative gerbils!

Test Tube Gerbils

We finished up the display for Lexie's science project last night. We stayed up a lot later than I wanted but the kids got up without complaint this morning. Lexie was afraid it would get destroyed on the bus so I have to run it in. On Monday I have to take in the actual maze and the gerbils. That ought to be fun...

Retarded Gerbil

The experiment was a failure. Hope that her grade is still good!

Scientific Question

Here's Lexie's "question"

Motorcycle Instruction Permit

It only took a few minutes and $14 to get my motorcycle license. It took me a bit to figure out which building over at Bowman Field to go into, but I got it right first guess. I got all 20 questions correct which was easy because its all really just a test of common sense. They probably ought to institute some similar test for marriage and before you have children!

I was thinking that its good for two years, but it looks like three. On an instruction permit you can not ride without a helmet or carry passengers, neither of which really affects me. I have two kids and it against the law to carry more than one passenger anyway. As for the helmet, 60% of all motorcycle related fatalities are from head injuries, so knowing this, what d*mb*ss would ride without one anyway? I don't have one yet, but I think the kids are going to get me one for Christmas...not that they know it yet. I have decided that I'll probably get a full-face helmet.
One thing I heard somebody say was that in a crash without a full-face, you're choosing which part you want to lose. If you get a 3/4, you choose your lower jaw. If you get a 1/2 you choose your lower jaw AND nose. With a very small shorty type helmet, I figure you're screwing around and getting into that 60% fatality zone.

I do have a lined leather-suede jacket that I will wear until it gets too hot, then I plan on getting a textile jacket. These jackets are lighter weight made with technologically protective material like kevlar, and other super strong materials. Some of them even have elbow and spine armor. Whatever it takes to keep the best percentage of my skin on my body is cool with me.

Cub Scouts tonight

Both kids are at scouts. I stay with Logan because Lexie is older and there's nothing for males to do but wait. Doesn't he look so cute in his uniform???

Test Podcast 1

I created my first test podcast. You can click here to listen.

Podcast 1

Day Watch

Night Watch was really a very good movie. I'm sure there are people who can rip it up for one reason or another, but I enjoyed it. It was not as scary as the trailer led me to believe, but the whole concept was in my opinon awesome. It was based on a trilogy of movies. I also watched the sequel which has just come out on DVD.

You can see the Day Watch Trailer here. I thought it was a well done as the first. The action is really cool, and it continues where the first one left off. The only really odd bit from both movies was the names. Here in America, it's generally a concept that good is light and dark is evil. Same in Russia apparently, but the name Night Watch is about the good--the Light Ones--who watch out over the Dark Ones and police them...thus the term Night Watch. Same but in reverse goes for Day Watch. So the Night Watch is good, and the Day Watch is evil. It's not what they ARE, but what the are confronting that gives them the name of the movies. Sort of like "The Evil Watchers" are not evil..."The Good Watchers" are not good.

Grady is the MAN!

There is this programmer here at work who maintains our system (called R4). Its an AS400/DOS menu looking POS interface but they use it for its basic stability. So what I do...the processes I run multiple times a day involve my switching back and forth between various screens. Its tedious to say the least. Well, Grady is going to be retiring at the end of this year. I was thinking how hard it is to get non-mandatory changes out of the head office, so I just asked him how hard it is and how much time would it take to do a custom menu. He emailed me back and said it would be no problem. Now you might be wondering why nobody has done this before now. Well the woman who did this job before me was a button pusher. She didn't care anything about how or why...just knew which button to push and when. The reason I'VE never asked before now is because I know how overworked Grady is. So I figured what the hell. I told him if it would take much time at all, not to worry about it...but... here's what I want if its not a problem. Guess what? He was able to do it and now its like having a universal remote at home that controls everything. It is really cool. He made it a secret menu so only I know where it is... Grady is 60+ years old, he graduated from Rose Hulman. He is a really cool guy. I will miss working with him. In al honesty, I don't see how the place is going to survive without him. I know it will be a lot harder for me personally!

Apple - Trailers - Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)

Tonight, Theresia and I are going to watch Russian Horror. It's called Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) and you can watch the trailer, which I have seen several times and it scares the sh*t out of me. Watch it and you will know what I am talking about. Hopefully this weekend we'll get to see the sequel Called Day Watch which just came out.

JCPS Followup

For some reason, my post about the JCPS losing Lexie did not post.
The final outcome was this: Her teacher Ms. White calls me to talk
about it. She burst out into crying saying she's been feeling sick
lately and she was on the way to the doctor. She said she was real
sorry that it happened. I might be pessimistic here, but it sounded
more like "I'm really sorry that I got into trouble over this." not,
"I'm real sorry that you child was put at risk and could have been
abducted." I told her that I understood that she is only human and
mistakes are possible, but that no excuse is acceptable with regards
to risking the safety of a child. I told her if she is overwhelmed,
she needs to ask for help. Let's just all thank God she's not a
surgeon with that attitude!

Big Boy

They asked to get their picture with Big Boy...I was thinking they were nuts, but I always try to indulge them on all the little things that makes life wonderful when you are a child. Oh, also from this morning...Theresia and I watched the movie "Bug" with Ashley Jud and Harry Conick. It was decent until the end when you figure out that (spoiler coming up) the two main characters are just friggin crazy as bedbugs(!) and there really are no actual insects in the movie. Not even the chirping cricket (played by a dying smoke detector).

Frisch's

We haven't been out to a sit-down restaurant in months, so I took the kids out to Frisch's. Not exactly Ruth's Chris, but they were so grateful it made me feel bad how restrictive our budget has been. That's ok because it has taught us all the important lesson that we don't need a lot of money or stuff to be happy. All we really need is each other.

Charlie Vettner Park

It was cool and windy today so Theresia and I dressed the kids in sweatshirts and packed lunch. We took the kids to Charlie Vettner Park. They always love going to the park. We were planning to go to Bernheim Forest, but got started a little late. Theresia's niece had locked herself out of the house, so we picked her up too. Later Theresia's sister Elizabeth came to get her. Elizabeth is really doing awesome on her diet. She's lost a bunch of weight and you can tell it just by looking at her! Well, the kids didn't seem to mind the wind because they were having fun playing but it really got to us, so we went to the car to sit where we could still keep a close eye on them.

Friday, November 02, 2007

Well, at least its Friday!

Hurstborne/Fern Valley never has traffic like this. That usually means a bad accident.

Spoke too soon...

i'm going to start walking to work. hell, its only 11 miles one way!!!!!!
