The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

Oatmeal ala dehydrated fruit
To save some money for camping and vacation, I bought a dehydrator to make snacks we can take and not worry about keeping things cool. This morning I packed instant oatmeal with raisins, and from the things I'd dehydrated I added: cantalope, strawberry, apple, and pear. it was really good but could have used some nuts. I won't be doing this again soon...I'm hoarding all my dried stuff for vacation. also, I found instructions online how to make an alcohol fuel ultralight camping stove, and a resource to get other backpack camping equipment at wholesale prices. the only things I need to go out wilderness camping are a light tent and a big pack. then the kids and I could go out into the woods for a coulpe days and not see any other people, not need electric or a cooler and just truly 100% enjoy the wilderness!
